Liza Howard Alumni Chapter
Background Information about the chapter:
In 1969, Mrs. Liza James Howard became the first African-American to attend and graduate from The University of West Alabama. In honor of Mrs. Howard, several alumni chartered the minority chapter of UWA's National Alumni Association in her name.
In the spring of 2011, a commemorative plaque will be erected on campus, near Bibb Graves, to honor Mrs. Liza James Howard for her accomplishments and contributions to the community. The plaque will entail her life story and will be surrounded by a walkway of engraved brick pavers. Brick pavers are currently available to purchase for $75 in memory or honor of individuals to show your support. Remember, all proceeds will benefit the LJHAC Scholarship Fund. You can purchase your brick paver today online or call the UWA Office of Alumni Relations at (205) 652-3852.
